How Do Blogs Make Money?

Profit Timeline
Most likely the majority of posts you’re seeing when you search the phrase, starting a blog, are blog articles with catchy headlines of ‘How my blog makes 10K a month after only three months!’.
In reality, if you’re starting from the beginning with no knowledge like I did, it’ll take you a few months just to figure out how to get everything created and set up for your blog.
If you have prior experience with a successful blog then yes it’s easy to duplicate and bring in that money fast. That is not a hit at blogging, that’s just how any new job, hobby or skill will be.
It takes time to learn the basics before you can achieve the most out of it.
There unfortunately is no set timeline for when you’ll be able to quit your current job to become a full-time blogger.
The only way to make money from a blog is to simply start a blog.
Start small and put in all the time and effort you can spare, and I promise you will see results.
Selling Products
Creating products to sell is going to be your biggest form of income if you do it right.
You are creating something unique and can completely control all aspects of your product allowing you to set the design and prices.
You can create digital ebooks on different topics under your niche to sell. It can be a How-To ebook or just an informational read your readers can purchase from your site.
Once you’ve got your blog running smoothly and feel like you can provide more information for your readers than just ebooks, you could create an online course.
You don’t need a lot of money to create an online course, you just need to feel confident that you could provide a lesson plan someone would be willing to pay for and could ultimately benefit from.
Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is another great way to make money on your blog, it works by providing your readers with a personalized link to a specific product you’re promoting.
If someone clicks on your link and goes on to buy that product, then you’d earn a commission. The level of the commission will vary based on the product.
There are many affiliate programs out there to choose from but the most common one is probably Amazon Associates. Regardless of your blog niche Amazon will have a product your readers will be interested in.
Just be sure to only recommend products that you actually believe in. Don’t just recommend random products for money, your readers will see through that.
Advertisements
Having a blog gives you a ton of website space where you could be placing ads and earning some extra money as well. It’s pretty much as easy as it sounds.
You sign up for an ad program and in exchange for them placing ads on your web pages, you will receive a share of that revenue when someone visits your site and clicks on that ad.
This is a passive form of income that has the potential to snowball into some major cash flow once your blog grows large enough.
Two of the most common ad companies are Google AdSense and Mediavine.
Sponsored Products
Once you’re getting traffic to your blog you may have some offers for sponsorships.
Sponsoring a product is very similar to affiliate marketing where you could earn commission from a specific product by recommending it to readers and providing the seller with your platform as their new target audience.
You could also potentially earn a chunk of earnings upfront as well to encourage you to sponsor their product over other companies.
Be Patient
A successful blog does not create itself overnight.
It’ll take a lot of work and trial and error to learn everything to become profitable, but like I said before, if you put the work in the money will follow.
The most important step of all of this is to just commit and begin your blogging journey.
I’m sure this is not your first article you’ve read about making money online or from a blog.
It’s good to do research before committing to a new idea, but you cannot build your own source of income unless you have the courage to try.
